Good morning everyone:
First I would like to start off by thanking everyone who was able to attend our first volunteer meeting last night. Though the turn out was a little smaller than we had hoped, it was very successful. It looks as though we may have at least two new active volunteers that would like to help us with home visits. HURRAY.
We had a lot to cover and though I did try to "move it along" and fit as much as possible in a short period of time we still did not cover everything. There were many interested people that were not able to make it last night as well. Because of this, we have been asked and have decided to do it again. Please keep your eyes on our website for more information on when/where it may be.
I am sure that most of you have at least heard about the Abandoned Washington County cats/kittens. If not, we would be happy to fill you in and tell you all about them if you would like to contact us via email or phone call. So far we have successfully rescued 13 of the 30+ cats/kittens that were left on an abandoned property. If you can believe it, some are even pure breeds! All (of course) were not spayed/neutered and obviously not up to date on shots. All in our care have already been fully vetted and s/n and are currently looking for their new forever homes. You can see some of them (still more pictures of the others on the way) on our available cats link here on our website. We are planning on returning (as early as this weekend possibly) to help some of the others. We have a volunteer visiting the abandoned property each day to check in and make sure they have food/water.
Currently we are seeking foster homes and/or forever homes for all of the cats/kittens that will be coming to us soon. Our foster homes are brimming at this time and we are only able to continue to help if we have placement for them. PLEASE contact us if you would like more information and/or are interested in helping us help them.
Our Second Annual Benefit Yard Sale is next weekend........ Oct. 17th & 18th. This year it will be held at Maple Ski Ridge. 9am-4pm each day. We are currently seeking volunteers to help with set up on Friday after noon and Sat morning, during the sale and Sunday/Monday to tear down. We are also asking anyone with pick-up trucks to contact us if they are able to help us after the event take all left over items to the Salvation Army, Good Will, Things of my Very Own and if nessasary a dump run as well.
Anyone interested in donating items for our sale can do so by APPOINTMENT ONLY by calling us at: 356-1100 or email. All donated items must be in clean gently used condition. (we don't mean to be "picky" but please no rotting grills or boxes that may have "nests" or "droppings" in them. you get the idea.)
I guess that is all for now. Again thank you to all that attended last nights meeting and we look forward to seeing you all again soon.
Have a great day everyone!

Hello Everyone!
As you can see all but two of the dogs in our care have found new homes. Mr. Angelo our wonderful and beautiful Apricot St. Poodle and Cody our little chi mix are the only two still looking. Though in wonderful foster homes being very well taken care of (and a little spoiled too), I know that they are just waiting for their turn.
The kittens are still looking as well. We have Chip and Dale our great little orange boys and our two little tiger manx mix boys. The both are sets of twins :-) I can not believe as wonderful, friendly, playful and sweet as these guys are that they are still here and seeking their new forever homes too. They have been with us since they were only about 3 weeks old and currently pushing the 5 month mark.
We are also seeking volunteers for a number of upcoming events. These events are in February and June of 2010. It is not up yet, but keep an eye out for a new link for volunteering. This link will let you know what types of volunteers are needed and hopefully the approximate amount of time would be needed as a commitment from each volunteer. This link should be up within a couple of weeks.
Anyone who may own a business or know someone who does that might wish to sponsor either or both events, please have them contact me directly via my personal email or our info@ email. both are located on our contact page.
We will again be at Dawgdom in Saratoga this weekend. Though we do not have that may dogs that are looking for homes, come and meet Michelangelo. Hopefully we can get Cody there as well to meet and greet everyone. We will also be bringing the sets of twins along too. We will again be having a 50/50 drawing. The last time was a success and of course you may have heard about our raffle from the Altamont Fair which reached just over $300 to the winner.
I guess that is it for now but wanted to touch base with everyone to let you all know what is going on.
Have a great week!!

Wednesday, August 19, 2009

Hello and good morning!
I would like to start this morning with a HUGE THANK YOU to Rose Norkus for inviting us to participate in the Altamont Fair last week. Though the attendance at the fair it's self was down, I think that we had a great response at our booth. We were able to raise a total (between our 50/50 drawing and donations) $1078.00!! The 50/50 drawing was a total of just over $700 which our winner Rich Foster generously donated his winnings (over $350.00) back to Waggin' Tails Pet Rescue. We can't thank you enough Rich for being such a support to us and the animals in our care!! We would also like to thank all of our wonderful volunteers for helping us and putting in their time to help us accomplish this goal on such a stifling hot week. We couldn't have done it without you all!
I would also like to wish Rose our best wishes on her recovery. Though I do not have all of the details I do know that she was not well last week and have not heard any updates as to her health as of yet. Please if anyone knows, let us know. Thank you.
We have a number of great things happening within/to our group. This year alone, our goal was to rescue and find homes for 150 animals. We have nearly done that (if not already). We have also been able to assist our local community with litters of stray kittens totaling 35 kittens. We are still working on catching the moms who have been able to avoid us thus far :-( . We have also helped with taking in a number of owner surrenders as well. And have been successful in finding nearly all of them their new forever homes (we still have a few kittens and adult cats).
We have also been invited to a number of different businesses to host adoption clinics on location. In order to be able to do this, we are asking anyone interested in volunteering to please contact us. Along with these invites, we are also invited to and planning on hosting a couple of events of our own. Of which we will also need a number of additional volunteers.
This would be a great project for the whole family as well as seniors, empty nesters and retirees too. Please contact us if interested and feel free to spread the word too to anyone that may be interested in helping out. Keep your eyes peeled on our Events page for details.
We will again be at Dawgdom in Downtown Saratoga the second Sunday of September. We hope to see you all there! We will have another 50/50 drawing that will be drawn at the end of the day. Need not be in attendance to win as the winner will be called and notified. A few of our "kids" will be there as well to greet everyone and hopefully find their new forever family.
Though we are "closed to intake" at this time it is simply because we want to be able to continue doing what we do and help as many animals and families as we can. Because of this, we are giving our few wonderful foster homes a break as we have all been going full boar this year and most have been doubling up at times too. We don't want to burn anyone out either. We are hopefully going to be able to open our homes again soon. Again, a call out to anyone interested in fostering an animal in need to please contact us. The more foster homes we have the more we can help. Please consider helping us help them.
On that note, I'll let you all get back to what you were doing and wish you all a great day!
I look forward to hearing from and seeing you all again soon!

Well now I know what I promised a while back that I would be more on top of this and give more updates on a regular basis. I am sorry that I have not done what I have said that I would.
We have been VERY busy here as we have had a number of owner surrenders come in and applications galore. Which is a wonderful thing. We have been able to pre-approve many families for future animals that may come into our care.
As for our foster homes. What a wonderful group of people. I know I have said it before but I will say it again, we couldn't do it without you!!!! We would like to thank and welcome a couple of new foster volunteers as well. Welcome Aboard!! You have been wonderful and very generous with opening your hearts and homes to some of our "kids".
At this time, we unfortunately are closed to "intake" at this time. What this means is that we are unable to accept any animals into our group for a few reasons. Due to the restrictions that we have with the number of foster homes available, we are totally full right now. A few of our foster home are even doubled up. We have a number of cats and kittens as well with calls coming in each day. Part two is that everyone needs a break now and then. We have been going full boar all year and many of our foster homes are going on vacations (have a great time!!) and are unable to foster for a while. Myself, well I am in the same boat as well as many in our group. We will be taking a "couple of weeks off" so to speak to get caught up and reconstruct. In order to do this, we ourselves are unable to foster. As I mentioned, everyone needs a vacation sometime. Don't worry though, we will be back in full swing soon enough.
In the meantime, we have many many events coming up. Please keep an eye out on our events page for what is going on and where we will be. Next week for example, we will be at the Altamont Fair all week. Though at most times we will not have the animals that are looking for homes on site, we will be available to answer all your questions and are looking forward to meeting you all. I personally will be there all day from 11am to 8pm on Tuesday (opening day). I will bring with me someone to keep me company for the day. Most likely it will be the twins........our little manx mix kittens that are still looking for their new forever home if you can believe it. I can't promise that they will be there all day as it is a long day for any little ones.
Last month we were invited again to Saratoga. We had a great day and a wonderful turn out. We met so many wonderful people and were even able to raise nearly $150.00 between our 50/50 raffle and donations. We would like to thank Sara the owner of Dawgdom for inviting us back. Dawgdom is a wonderful little dog boutique that you should all check out.
We are planning our next yard sale fundraiser too. We do not yet have the date set in stone but will let you know soon. It looks like it will be in September this year. We will again be accepting donations for sale but not yet please. We will advertise on our events page and probably on Craigslist as well for dates and times for drop off and the dates of the sale.
As for a couple of the kids in our group that are still looking for homes. There is Tracker our wonderful little guy who we can not believe is still with us. He is still a puppy at only about 8 months old now and just as friendly and lovable as they come. He is however quiet a high energy little man so any family interested might want to keep up :-). There is Bentley a little Lhasa mix that is only about 3 yrs old or so. He came from a puppy mill and has been in foster for some time. He is now ready for his new forever home. Housebroken and get along with other dogs and children this little man is still quite shy and would do best in a home with another small dog. Actually let me refraze that, he NEEDS a home with another small dog. The foster home he is currently in has a small dog and he has attached himself to him like glue.
I guess that is all for now as I am being paged by Barney telling me it is way past dinner time and he want to eat before he passes out.
We look forward to seeing you all at the fair and speaking with you all.
Have a great night!

Good Morning Everyone:
Here are just a few upcoming events that we have been invited too.
On Saturday June 13th come visit us at Ryley's Run. You can get all the information that you need on their website at: www.ryleysrun.org. There will be a number of local rescue groups attending and each will have a couple of their "kids" along with them that are looking for homes. There will be a number of fantastic raffles and an over all day of fun. When you register, you will receive a great gift bag full of goodies. You can register even if you do not wish to participate just to get all the goodies :-).

On Sunday July 13th come visit us at the Price Chopper located on Altamont Ave in Rotterdam from 10am to 4pm. Price Chopper would like to gain community involvement and support to the efforts of their local rescue groups and show the community that they care about pets and their owners. There will also be a pet food drive at this event. We will have more information on this event in the near future. Please keep an eye out here on my blog as well as on our events page for more information.

I would now like to tell you a little about what has been going on with us in just the past couple of weeks. Two weeks ago we began receiving calls from one of the SCACO's (Schenectady Co. Animal Control Officers). They have been getting a TON of calls about kittens in a variety of places. Each of these litters have wild mommies but were so young and not being taken care of that someone needed to help them. We were in a position that we were able to help. We took in two litters of kittens for a total of 10 babies. We also helped a couple of local people by doing the same thing. Currently we have 18 babies that are looking for homes. You can see just some of them here on our website on our available cats link.
We also are in need of scoopable cat litter as we have been going through it like crazy!! If anyone is interested in donating some scoopable litter there are two ways to do so. Visit our website and click on our EVERY DAY NEEDS link. There you will find a link titled litter. Follow the information and you could donate through paypal. Second, you could drop off some litter at our location Tuesday, Wednsday, Thurs and Saturday's from 9am to 5pm. Please remember that on Saturday June 13th we will be closed for Ryley's Run.

We have a few new dog in our group that are looking for homes as well. Our website will be updated shortly so keep your eye's out for the new arrivals. In the meantime, for anyone interested in adopting and would like to know who is available, please feel free to call us and we would be happy to answer any of your questions. Or contact us at: info@waggintailsny.com .

As always we are still looking for foster homes as well. Please if you are interested, every thought about it and/or would like more information on our foster home program please feel free to call us and/or contact us again at: info@waggintailsny.com . We would be happy to speak with you.

Thank you to all of our wonderful volunteers!! We could not do what we do without you all.
Have a wonderful weekend everyone and thank you for visiting our site.

Hello Everyone:
I know that it has been a while since I have updated everyone. I am sorry about that. As you can see, we have been quite busy and have been quite successful in finding all but two of our dogs and puppies new homes in the past month. Everyone has found wonderful new forever families and you can even see some of them on our Pawfect Endings page.
I see that Lorie, the wonderful woman who created and maintains our site has added a couple of things here since I have been on last. I would also like to send a "shout out" to Elliot and Virgina for posting such wonderful comments. I am glad to see that everyone is starting to join in. Looks like I am going to have to check in a bit more often than once a month :-).
Now for our updates:
If you recall, I mentioned about a wonderful little one year old pit that was starved near death. She is still with us though still not out of the woods yet. Weighing in at only 20lbs or so still, this little girl should be between 50-60lbs currently. The wonderful girl who has taken her into her home and her heart has been working night and day taking care of her. She has taken on full responsibility for all medical treatment and is currently at over $12,000 in vet bills. As you can see on our events page, there will be a BBQ & Bottle Drive Fundraiser on Sunday May 24th at the Pattersonville Fire Department from 12 noon to 4:00 pm. There will be activities as well such as face painting for the children, games, a raffle and a bake sale (yummy!!). All monies raised will go direct toward this little girls care. Donations are also being accepted via pay pal located on our site if you are unable to make it for this fun filled afternoon for a good cause. Please spread the word!!
As you can see, we do not have that many dogs and puppies looking for homes at this time, however we are receiving many calls and there will be more soon. We have also just taken in a litter of 3 week old baby kittens. They are in a wonderful foster home getting all the love and care that they need. Of course we are accepting applications for when they are old enough to go to their new forever homes. The funny thing about these siblings is that four of the five don't have tails!! They are bob tails and one looks as if it is so short that it doesn't even have a tail! They are just TOO CUTE! We also still have all of our wonderful adult cats that are patiently waiting for someone to want to love them forever. I do have some wonderful news though. Our special little Ursula has found her new forever home. I have to say that after 2 1/2 years with us we miss her terrible. But it is good to know that she will now be the spoiled little girl that she wants to be. Barney misses her most of all as they were bud's hanging out for the last couple of years together. Don't worry Barney, it will be your turn soon enough.
Then there is our sweet little Marilyn. This little girl has been with us for just over a year now. She is the sweetest thing you will ever meet and SO SO lovable not to mention one of the prettiest cats you will see with her green eyes. She has only one request though............ no other pets please. She feels that she should have all humans to herself. And Elizabeth. This poor one year old (nearly two now) was trapped along with six others. The kittens of course have all found their new homes right away and K.K. was released into a wonderful small colonie of wild/feral cats and immediately found a best friend. They are quiet a spoiled bunch of feral cats for sure with beds to sleep in, scratching posts, food/water available at all times and even toys. But Elizabeth doesn't fall into this category. She is not feral, but she definitely knows what she wants when she wants it and would rather let you know than you come to her. She would do fine as an indoor cat but (and please don't hold this against me) but would also love to be an indoor/outdoor cat as she is kind of a "loaner" and can not tolerate dogs at all. I guess she just feels as if there isn't a use for them.
Then we have our special adult siblings Ranger and Cherry Bell. These two BEAUTIFUL cats are only 8 yrs old and two of the nicest cats you will meet. Cherry is very friendly greeting customers and loving the petting and Ranger.........well he's the quiet one. Very sweet and loving as well but would rather cuddle up with his sister. We are going to hold out for a forever home for them together because they have never known other animals but each other.
Now that I have updated you all on who is still looking for their forever homes, please spread the word and check them out on our site.
Moving on.............. I will now once again mention the need for foster homes. Though it seems as if we are not in need at this time, that is not the case at all. The reason that we do not have any dogs/puppies in our care currently is because we are giving all of our current foster homes a "break" for a couple of weeks. They deserve it as they poor their hearts and soles into the animals in their care. They are a wonderful and very special group of people and I can not say enough about them.
As for other needs, we are currently accepting clumping cat litter for the cats/kittens in our care. You can also donate via pay pal on our Everyday Needs page. Please also consider sponsoring Smokey our senior chow mix that came to us not long ago. He is a wonderful, loving and very special guy who's foster family is in love with.
I guess that is all for now. Please feel free to continue sharing with us. I promise that I will watch this site a little more often now. Have a great weekend everyone!!

Tuesday, April 14, 2009

Hello everyone and hope you all had a wonderful Easter Holiday weekend.
Just checking in with everyone and to give you a little update on what is happening here.
Princess the poor starved little girl is still with us. She is just as sweet as can be but still has a LONG road ahead of her. Her new mommy is tube feeding her every two hours day and night. She is finally going potty on her own. It is pretty sad when we get so excited to see a dog go potty but when you haven't seen her go in weeks because she didn't have anything to let out because her body was taking it all in, that is really sad and exciting at the same time. There were a couple of "scares" when she did have to get rushed to the vet, but each time she was able to come back home again. The previous family is in a little bit of trouble now. I do not want to get into too much detail but lets just say that he has a court date now! We would like to thank everyone for keeping her in your prayers. I am sure that is helping.
On a lighter note, we have many new additions to the Waggin' Tails family that are looking for homes. Some are local owner surrenders and others are from shelters. We just can't help ourselves when we see those little faces and attached is a "death date". Each night I just want to take them all in and it is the hardest thing in the world to do when you have to choose. I know that I/we can not save them all and I do not pretend to believe that we can. But there are many days that I wish that we could. Our entire group feels the same way.
So................ let me ask you all a question. If there was a low cost shot clinic in the capital district would you go? And if so what is the distance that you would be willing to travel to get there? We are in the process of putting one together but would like your thought on this. Here is what is slowing us down. A place to do it!! We do not need much room and we already have a vet that has agreed to do it for us. However we do not have a place to be able to set up shop twice a month. What we are looking for is a store, business or someplace that we can be indoor and set up a couple of tables (actually three tables). We would like to have about 4 plus hours every other Monday. We would not be able to rent/pay for this time unfortunately due to the fact that we are a not-for-profit. But you would be able to write your time and space off as a donation. We would like it to be in an easy to get to/find location. A fire house or school gym or something like that would be perfect. Please if you know of anyplace and/or would like more information contact me and I would be happy to give you more details.
We are also still seeking foster homes. As you can see, we are full again!! Most of our foster homes are doubled up right now and we are totally fresh out of space and getting calls every day asking for our help. I know that i sound like a broken record on this subject, but foster homes are so very important. No rescue or shelter can do what they do without the wonderful foster home volunteers.
Well, I guess that is all for tonight.
Have a great night!!
